The short version: the Poemlight app collects no personal data. Nothing. The one exception is on this website: if you join the launch waitlist, we keep that email address for a single purpose — telling you the app has launched. We built Poemlight so you can fall asleep to poetry without giving anything away. This policy applies wherever you use Poemlight — the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States or elsewhere — and the answer is the same everywhere, because the app works the same everywhere.
Who we are
Poemlight is made by PMN Ventures. For the purposes of UK and EU data-protection law, PMN Ventures is the data controller — though as this policy explains, there is almost no data to control. Contact: hello@poemlight.com.
What Poemlight stores on your device
Poemlight needs no account and has no sign-up. The following are stored only in your browser or device storage and are never transmitted to us or anyone else:
- favourites and listening history
- your chosen voice and dark-mode preference
- playback position and queue
- streak data
- notification preference and subscription, if you opt in
Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes all of this permanently. We cannot recover it, see it, or erase it for you — by design.
What happens when the app downloads content
Audio, poem text and timing data are downloaded from our static hosting so the app works offline. These requests carry no account, no identifier and nothing unique to you. Like all web hosting, our provider's servers keep brief technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security and abuse prevention, rotated on a short cycle; we don't use them to identify or profile anyone, and we run no analytics on them.
Notifications
If you opt in to daily poem reminders, the notification preference and subscription are stored on your device. You can switch them off at any time in settings.
The launch waitlist (this website)
If you add your email address to the waitlist form on this website, the address is stored by our site host (here.now) and used for one purpose only: a single email telling you Poemlight has launched on the App Store and Google Play. It is never sold, never shared, and never used for any other marketing. To have it removed at any time, email hello@poemlight.com and it will be deleted within 7 days.
Children
Poemlight collects no personal data from anyone, of any age. The app is not directed at children under 13, and because nothing is collected, nothing about a child is ever transmitted, stored by us, or shared (including under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).
Cookies, advertising and analytics
The app and this website set no cookies, contain no advertising and no cross-site tracking. We do not sell or share personal information — there is none to sell. If we add usage analytics in future, it will be anonymous, aggregated and cookie-less — never used to identify you — and we will update this page first.
Your rights
UK and EU (UK GDPR / GDPR): because no personal data leaves your device, there is nothing held about you for us to access, correct, export or erase — clearing the app's storage or deleting the app does it completely. (The one exception is a waitlist email address, if you gave us one on this website: you can have it removed or sent to you at any time by emailing hello@poemlight.com.) You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
United States: because Poemlight collects no personal information, US state privacy laws that require notice about collection, sale or sharing of personal information (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act) are satisfied by this policy: there is no collection, no sale and no sharing to disclose.
International transfers
No personal data is transferred across borders, because the app collects none. The only exception is a waitlist email address given on this website, which is stored by our site host for the single purpose described above.
Changes
If this policy ever changes we'll update this page and the date above. See also our Terms of Use.
